A migrant worker from Assam’s Lakhimpur district was found dead in Tamil Nadu days after he went missing during a train journey to Kerala.

North Lakhimpur: In another tragic incident involving an Assamese migrant worker outside the state, a 45-year-old man from Lakhimpur district was found dead in Tamil Nadu under mysterious circumstances. The deceased, identified as Cheniram Chetia of Dadhara Amguri village under Shimluguri police station, had left his home on May 8 along with two fellow villagers to work at a private company in Kerala.

According to reports, the trio was travelling by train from Bengaluru to Kerala on the night of May 11 when Cheniram reportedly went to the washroom around midnight and never returned to his seat. After reaching Kerala, his companions alerted the police about his disappearance.

Following a joint search operation by the Kerala and Tamil Nadu police, Cheniram’s body was recovered on May 16 from an isolated area between Salem and Dharmapuri railway stations in Tamil Nadu, nearly 185 kilometres from Bengaluru.

The incident has left his family devastated. He leaves behind his wife and seven year old daughter. Family members have alleged foul play and claimed that he may have been murdered.
