Guwahati: The Arunachal Pradesh government has introduced a fully digital teacher transfer and posting mechanism with the objective of bringing more transparency, equitable staff distribution and stricter monitoring of school attendance across the state.

The new system, launched under the ‘Reach to Teach’ programme, was announced on Wednesday by Education Commissioner Amjad Tak. The initiative seeks to address teacher shortages in far-flung and difficult areas while streamlining the transfer process.

As part of the reform, the government has developed an online Teacher Registry Portal that will digitally handle transfer requests, service information and posting records of teachers.

Officials said that around 16,068 teachers, nearly 97.4 per cent of the total teaching workforce in the state along with 107 ministerial employees, have already registered on the platform.

The portal will store detailed records of teachers, including their previous postings, classroom performance, students’ academic outcomes and medical information. Authorities believe the system will improve transparency and reduce administrative irregularities in the education sector.

Tak stated that the transfer policy has been designed by taking into account Arunachal Pradesh’s difficult terrain and logistical challenges, while also trying to reduce hardships faced by teachers during transfers.

So far, the education department has issued 2,064 intra-district transfer orders, with more than half already implemented. In addition, over 600 teachers have applied for transfers through the self-transfer option available on the portal.

The department also clarified that teachers may still be shifted manually if required, especially in schools facing severe shortages of staff, even if they do not volunteer for transfers.

The government is simultaneously working to maintain the targeted teacher-student ratio of 1:45 in remote schools.

The commissioner further warned that teachers who fail to report to their new posting within 15 days could face disciplinary action under the provisions of the Act.
