Guwahati: The Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) withdrawn the faculty and staff termination order at the eleventh hour, retracting notices for over 100 employees.

This dramatic shift comes after productive discussions with the Tata Education Trust (TET), the organization responsible for funding the affected positions.

Just days ago, the Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) dismissed 55 faculty members and nearly 60 non-teaching staff members across its four campuses in a surprising move, Indian Express reported. The Guwahati campus suffered the most, losing all non-teaching staff and half its teaching staff.

However, a resolution emerged on Sunday.

A statement from TISS stated, "ongoing discussions with the Tata Education Trust... have provided assurance that resources will be made available."

The contracts, initially set to expire on June 30 across TISS campuses in Mumbai, Tuljapur, Hyderabad, and Guwahati, will now continue.

While TISS is a Deemed University and receives primary funding from the University Grants Commission (UGC), the Tata Trust's grants played a crucial role in supporting specific programs and the associated staff.
