India wins historic first T20 Blind Women’s World Cup
Guwahati: India clinched the historic first-ever T20 Blind Women’s World Cup title on Sunday, outclassing Nepal by seven wickets in a dominant final held at the P Sara Oval in Colombo.
Choosing to bowl first, India’s disciplined attack held Nepal to 114 for 5, allowing only one boundary throughout the innings.
The Indian batters later chased down the target with remarkable ease, racing to 117 for 3 in just 12 overs.
Phula Saren anchored the successful chase with an unbeaten 44, steering the team to a comfortable victory.
India entered the final after defeating Australia in the first semifinal, while Nepal secured its place by overcoming Pakistan a day earlier.
Co-hosts Sri Lanka endured a tough campaign, registering only a single win, against the USA, in the preliminary round.
The tournament also saw Pakistan’s Mehreen Ali emerge as its most prolific batter.
The partially sighted B3-category player amassed over 600 runs, including a staggering 230 off 78 balls against Sri Lanka and another century, a 133, against Australia.
