FIFA World Cup trophy to debut in Assam on Jan 13
Guwahati: Assam will host the FIFA World Cup Trophy for the first time, marking a major moment for the state and its football fans.
Sports and Youth Welfare Minister Nandita Gorlosa announced on Tuesday at Bhogeshwari Phukanani Indoor Stadium, Dispur, that the trophy will arrive in Guwahati on January 13.
It will be displayed at Barsapara Stadium from 3 p.m., giving football enthusiasts a chance to see the iconic trophy up close.
The official inauguration will take place at 8:30 p.m., with Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma presiding over the ceremony.
The visit also marks the trophy’s return to India after 12 years.
Entry to the event will be free.
A cultural programme will run on the Coke Studio stage from 3 p.m., featuring performances by singers Shankuraj and Rito Riba.
The trophy tour in Assam aims to inspire aspiring footballers, promote grassroots sports, and further strengthen the state’s growing role in India’s sports landscape.
