Guwahati: Two people died, and eight others were injured after a car from Sikkim’s Gangtok fell nearly 500 feet into a gorge along National Highway 10 in West Bengal’s Kalimpong district.

According to a senior police officer, the accident occurred on the evening of Friday, December 12, near Birik Dara, when the Siliguri-bound vehicle skidded off the highway after the driver lost control.

Responding quickly, local residents, NHIDCL workers, and police teams launched a rescue operation despite the challenging terrain.

The officer stated that two people died, and eight injured individuals were taken to Rambi Hospital.

Some of the critically injured were later referred to hospitals in Siliguri for further treatment.
