Guwahati: Tshering Palden Bhutia of the Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM) was elected Mayor of the Gangtok Municipal Corporation on May 2, with Sara Lama taking charge as Deputy Mayor.

Earlier in the day, the newly elected councillors of the Gangtok Municipal Cooperation were sworn in by the Gangtok District Magistrate, who administered the oath of office and secrecy. The municipal elections, held on April 24, resulted in a decisive victory for the ruling SKM, which won 19 out of 21 wards. Opposition parties had boycotted the polls.
