GANGTOK: In a proud moment for Sikkim, the film “Tara, the Lost Star” debuted at the Cannes International Film Festival 2024.

It is for the first time in the history of Sikkim that a film from the Himalayan state reached this prestigious event.

Actor and producer Shyama Shree Sherpa represented Sikkim and the film at the festival.

The film, which took approximately seven months to complete, was extensively shot in the scenic Gnathang-Memenchu area near Changu Lake in Sikkim.

Expressing her excitement, Shyama Shree Sherpa stated, “I am glad to announce that it is a historic moment for all Sikkimese and Nepali people, as for the first time, a Sikkimese Nepali film named ‘Tara, the Lost Star’ is screening on May 20 at 12:00 pm for the market screening at the biggest film festival in the world, the Cannes International Film Festival.”

Directed by Samten Bhutia and co-produced by Sabitri Chettri, “Tara, the Lost Star” is a presentation of SaDa Productions in association with Passang Mintok Films.

Sikkim chief minister Prem Singh Tamang-Golay congratulated the film’s team, calling it “a remarkable achievement for Sikkim as it makes its debut at the prestigious Cannes International Film Festival 2024”.
