GANGTOK: Tragedy struck Sikkim on Monday (June 10) as heavy rains unleashed havoc, resulting in landslides and flash floods that claimed the lives of two individuals, with one person reported missing.

The deceased have been identified as Yabha Subba and Bishal Rai, while the missing individual is identified as Manita Limbu.

According to reports, the torrential downpour led to the destruction of at least eight houses in Majuwa village, located in Yangan under South Sikkim.

Communication networks have been severely affected by the adverse weather conditions, prompting the closure of roads in the southern part of the state as a precautionary measure.

Furthermore, flight services from the lone Pakyong airport in Sikkim have been disrupted.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for Mangan, Gayalsing, Gangtok, and Pakyong districts of Sikkim in light of the ongoing inclement weather conditions.
