Around 1000 tourists remain stranded in landslides-hit Sikkim
GANGTOK: More than 200 tourists have been evacuated from Lachung in Mangan district of landslide-hit Sikkim.
On the other hand, around 1000 tourists are still left stranded, a senior Sikkim police official informed on Tuesday (June 18).
The evacuation process saw tourists being moved via Chungthang to Mangan town, where the Sikkim transport department arranged vehicles to transport them to Gangtok.
On Tuesday (June 18), around 150 tourists were evacuated, adding to the 64 evacuated on Monday (June 17) from Lachung in North Sikkim.

Officials of the Mangan district administration in Sikkim, along with personnel from the BRO, SDRF, NDRF, and volunteers, have been working to ensure the safe evacuation of tourists.
Moreover, the Mangan district administration in Sikkim has ordered the immediate closure of all government schools in the district due to safety concerns.
