Sikkim: Prem Singh Tamang secures landslide victory, SKM dominates with 31 of 32 Seats

Guwahati: Incumbent Chief Minister and Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM) candidate Prem Singh Tamang, also known as P. S. Golay, won the Rhenock assembly constituency, securing 10,094 votes.

Tamang defeated his nearest rival, Som Nath Poudyal of the Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF), by a margin of 7,044 votes. Poudyal received 3,050 votes.

In the Soreng Chakung Assembly constituency, Tamang also emerged victorious, defeating his nearest rival, A. D. Subba of the SDF, by a margin of 7,396 votes. Tamang secured 10,480 votes, while Subba got 3,084 votes.

Prem Singh Tamang, born on February 10, 1968, in Soreng, West Sikkim, began his career as a government employee before entering politics. In 1993, he founded the Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM) political party. He has been a member of the Sikkim Legislative Assembly since 1994.

The ruling SKM made a historic win in the Sikkim Assembly election, securing 31 of the 32 seats. The opposition party, Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF), managed to win only one seat. Five-time former Chief Minister of Sikkim, Pawan Kumar Chamling, lost to SKM candidate Bhoj Raj Rai.

Elections in Sikkim were held on April 19, and the counting of votes began at 6 a.m. on Saturday.
