GANGTOK: With Lok Sabha and assembly elections in Sikkim knocking at the doors, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), has lodged a police complaint against the ruling Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM), alleging violation of the model code of conduct (MCC) during a recent political gathering in the Himalayan state.

The police complaint, addressed to the station head of AF police station in Gangtok, recounts an incident at Mannan Kendra in Gangtok, where students purportedly attended a political rally organized by the SKM.

According to the police complaint, the organizers reportedly left the students unattended until as late as 12:30 am.

Dinesh Chandra Nepal, accompanied by associates Niren Bhandar and Lalit Pokhrel Sharma, visited the venue to assess the situation.

They promptly notified the election commission of India (ECI) about the incident and requested clarification regarding the students’ claims for compensation.

Upon intervention by the SKM’s students’ wing president, Chopel Sherpa, and Tshering Wangchuk, along with their team, assurances were made regarding the safety and security of the students in the presence of the deputy commissioner (DC) and superintendent of police (SP) of Gangtok district in Sikkim.

The BJP’s complaint squarely places responsibility on the SKM for any potential harm to the students, emphasizing their pivotal role in shaping the future of both the state and the nation.

The complaint advocates for stringent measures based on evidence gathered during surveillance, including the revocation of registrations and nominations if culpability is established.

It may be mentioned here that the BJP is an ally of the SKM in Sikkim and SKM is also a part of the BJP-led national democratic alliance (NDA).
