Guwahati: Meghalaya’s state capital Shillong is gearing up to host the much-anticipated Cherry Blossom Festival scheduled for November 15 and 16 this year.

Preparations are already underway to make the annual festival a memorable one this year.

The festival this year promises to be a star-studded one with both international and Indian artists set to perform in the two-day event.

With a line-up of international and local pop icons, the festival is all set to make it a memorable one with the celebration of music, culture and unity.

One of the biggest and most popular events of the  ‘abode of clouds’ - the ‘Shillong Cherry Blossom Festival 2024’ - will feature international pop icons like Senegalese-Americal singer and songwriter Aliaune Damala Badara Akon Thiam – mononymously known as Akon.

Akon’s hits - Smack That and ‘Lonely – have dominated charts across the globe.

The popular singer last performed in India at the grand wedding of Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant earlier this year.

His performance is likely to be one of the major attractions of the event drawing crowds from across the country.

Another international talent to perform in the festival is Maizie Williams of the Boney M group. The iconic pop group –Boney M – is one of the most popular pop groups of the 1970s and 80s known worldwide for its hits like Rasputin and Rivers of Babylon.

These numbers were, and still are, the most popular music that has left a remarkable mark on the hearts of the Indian pop music lovers.

Maizie Williams’ performance at the Shillong fest is likely to be nostalgic among the music lovers of the late 70s and early 80s.

The event also has a notable line-up of Indian artists who are likely to enthrall the music loving crowd of Meghalaya and other parts of the country alike.

Not to be forgotten are Meghalaya’s local favourites Lou Majaw and Rudy Wallang who are also set to perform.

With a line-up of these cultural icons, the Shillong Cherry Blossom Festival this year will be an unforgettable experience and is likely to leave a lasting impact on the hearts of the people.
