The Shillong Bar Association building, erected in 1913, stands as one of the oldest legal establishments in the country.

The devastating fire, which erupted on February 24 night shortly after 10:15 PM, rapidly consumed the historic wooden structure, reducing the entire office to ashes.

The inferno ravaged thousands of case files, some dating back to the early 1900s, causing irreparable loss to the legal community and the historical record contained within the files.
