Security Forces recover heroin worth Rs. 6.6 lakh in Mizoram

Aizawl: Acting on specific information, Assam Rifles and Mizoram police seized 173.2 grams of heroin worth Rs. 6.6 lakh in Lunglei on Thursday, Assam Rifles said in a statement on Saturday.

A male and female drug peddlers identified as Lalrinfela (36) and Vanlalremi (47), both from Lunglei’s Chamari area have been arrested for possessing the contraband, it said.

The seized heroin was concealed in 16 soap cases, it said.

The arrested duo has been sent to police custody and further investigation into the case is going on.

There has been a major thrust by the security forces in the state to apprehend contraband items and since January Assam Rifles has been able to seize contraband items worth Rs. 130 crore in the state.
