SC lawyer Runa Bhuyan abused on social media for filing compliant against Papon

In a bizarre incident, a Supreme Court lawyer, who filed a complaint against singer Angarag Papon Mahanta with the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) for ‘inappropriately kissing’ a minor girl, has been trolled and abused on social media by a section of followers of the singer.

Supreme Court lawyer Runa Bhuyan on Thursday lodged a complaint with the child rights panel against the 41-year-old singer after the video of the singer ‘inappropriately kissing’ a minor girl went viral on social media.

Following this, posts have been put up on social media websites especially on Facebook maligning the identity of the woman lawyer.

What could be called highly outrageous, a section of followers of the singer, shared some images of the lawyer on Facebook from her account of the microblogging site with sexually explicit comments.

Hemanta Sarma, a journalist in an Assamese news channel with its headquarters in Guwahati, in direct violation of  journalistic ethics, shared some personal images of Bhuyan, on Saturday night on Facebook.

Sarma’s post followed some highly objectionable remarks on Facebook against the woman lawyer of the top court.

The journalist, however, on Sunday removed the post from Facebook and tendered his apology after being criticized for the misogynistic undertones of the post.

One Jiten Borgohain, who hails from Dibrugarh (as mentioned in his Faebook account), also made some derogatory comments against the apex court lawyer.

The man has made lewd comments pointing to the attire of Bhuyan.

Meanwhile, reciting to the troll on social media, Bhuyan’s husband and a Delhi based journalist and cartoonist, Partha Jyoti Borah, has posted on Facebook that they would continue to fight for the cause.

“Runa Bhuyan is my wife and we have been married for last 7 years. She has fought for a cause ie for the safety and security of the kids in the county. She did this knowing that there will be colossal maligning of out personal attributes. Does not matter how we are being maligned; she will keep fighting for the cause,” Bora writes.
