Dimapur: Highlighting the detrimental impact of rising crime on the economic growth of Nagaland, chief minister Neiphiu Rio stressed on the need for enhanced security measures, particularly in Dimapur, the state’s financial hub, which faces persistent challenges from illegal activities.

During an official function, Nagaland chief minister Neiphiu Rio expressed concerns over issues such as extortion, illegal taxation and other criminal activities that thrive due to Dimapur’s proximity to Assam and its diverse demographic composition.

CM Rio called for proactive measures to curb crime rates, asserting that improved security in Dimapur would foster a safer environment across Nagaland.

“Policing in urban areas demands modern technology and a proactive approach,” the Nagaland CM said.

“The police force must upgrade their capabilities and adopt stringent measures to combat social elements that threaten urban peace.”

Nagaland chief minister Neiphiu Rio also commended the Nagaland police for their efforts in combating crime and smuggling.

At the police complex in Chumoukedima, Rio and Nagaland deputy chief minister Y Patton flagged off new vehicles and mobile forensic units, aiming to enhance police mobility and operational efficiency.

“These new resources symbolize our commitment to swift and effective response to public safety needs,” stated Nagaland deputy chief minister Y Patton.

“In densely populated urban areas like Dimapur, equipped policing is not just essential but urgent.”

The Nagaland chief minister urged continued public cooperation with law enforcement, stressing the importance of vigilance and timely reporting to prevent crime.

He assured ongoing government support for police initiatives and underscored their indispensable role in maintaining public order.
