Protests outside UN Headquarters over attacks on Hindus in Bangladesh
New York : A massive protest calling for protection of Hindus in Bangladesh was witnessed outside the United Nations (UN) Headquarters on Saturday.
Videos on social media shows a large crowd gathering outside the UN Headquarters demanding an end to violence against the Hindu population amid the unrest and turmoil in Bangladesh.
HinduACTion, a Washington-based NGO, who organised the protest , shared videos showing a large group people, with placards and banners, have gathered for the protest outside the UN Headquarters in New York.
The NGO also said people from all walks of life showed up for the protest on a working day demanding protection for Hindus and saving of properties belonging to the Hindu community in Bangladesh
“Protests outside the UN ongoing- calling for saving the Hindus and the minorities in Bangladesh. Very impressive to see people from all walks of life show up spontaneously on a work day,” the NGO said in a post on X while sharing a video of the protest.
Several key leaders like Representative Fallon, Congressmen Shri Thanedar and Raja Krishnamoorthi, among others spoke up against the violence of the minorities in Bangladesh.
Meanwhile, thousands of Bangladeshi Hindus took to the streets of its capital city Dhaka to protest against the unabated attacks on them and vandalisation of their properties.
The protestors were angry and holding placards which read: Hindus Have a Right to Live.
They appealed for peace as they blocked an intersection in the capital on Friday amid chants of 'Hare Krishna, Hare Krishna'.
There have been widespread reports of Hindus being attacked mercilessly, houses and shops burnt, and temples and idols vandalized completely in Bangladesh ever since Sheikh Hasina fled the country following weeks of unrest over a controversial quota system in government jobs.
Over 400 people have been killed in the violent protests that begun on June.
