THIMPHU: Prime Minister Narendra Modi embarked on a two-day state visit to Bhutan, arriving in the country on Friday (March 22) morning.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi received a warm welcome from Bhutanese counterpart Tshering Tobgay upon his arrival at Paro Airport.
During his visit to Bhutan, Prime Minister Modi is scheduled to participate in various programs aimed at strengthening the partnership between India and Bhutan.
“I look forward to discussions with His Majesty the King of Bhutan, His Majesty the Fourth Druk Gyalpo, and Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay,” stated PM Modi.
Modi's trip to Bhutan was rescheduled due to adverse weather conditions in the Himalayan region.
Initially planned from March 21 to March 22, this visit was anticipated to be his final foreign engagement before the upcoming general elections.
The Prime Minister's visit to Bhutan follows closely after Bhutanese counterpart Tshering Tobgay's recent trip to India, spanning from March 14 to March 18.
A joint statement issued post the meeting between Modi and Tobgay underscored the strong friendship between India and Bhutan, emphasizing its significance for the region.
Both leaders pledged to enhance bilateral relations, with Modi affirming India's commitment to supporting Bhutan's aspirations to achieve high-income status in alignment with the vision of the Bhutanese king.
