PM Modi tenders his resignation to President Murmu
Guwahati: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has reached the Rashtrapati Bhawan to submit his resignation and request the dissolution of the 17th Lok Sabha.
PM Modi on Wednesday tendered his resignation along with the Council of Ministers to President Droupadi Murmu.
“The President has accepted the resignation and requested Shri Narendra Modi and the Council of Ministers to continue till the new government assumes office,” a press communique said.
The NDA got past the majority mark to win 292 seats, but the BJP as a party fell short of the majority on its own.
If the NDA forms the government, Modi will be the second leader to retain power for a third term after former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru.
The Union Cabinet met at the Prime Minister’s residence on Wednesday morning, a day after the declaration of the election results.
According to reports, it has recommended the dissolution of the 17th Lok Sabha.
The meeting began at 11.30 am and was followed by a meeting of the council of ministers.
This was the last meeting of Modi 2.0’s cabinet and council of ministers.
The Cabinet’s recommendation on the dissolution of the current Lok Sabha paves the way for the 18th Lok Sabha.
The term of the current 17th Lok Sabha ends on June 16.
