Agartala: Thousands of polling officials, accompanied by police personnel, have set off for their assigned polling stations with Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) for the upcoming East (ST) Parliamentary Constituency election slated for April 26.

In the electoral battleground of Tripura’s East Parliamentary Constituency, the contest pits BJP candidate Kriti Singh Debbarma against INDI Bloc candidate and CPIM leader Rajendra Reang.

Encompassing all assembly constituencies of Dhalai, North, Unakoti, Khowai, four ACs of South Tripura, and three ACs of Gomati district, this Lok Sabha seat witnesses a significant electoral fervour.

Since early morning, personnel have been assembling the EVMs in Ambassa of Dhalai District, Dharmanagar in North District, and other designated centres across the region.

Saju Vaheed, the Returning Officer for the East (ST) Parliamentary Constituency, confirmed the commencement of EVM dispatches in the morning hours.

“To facilitate the smooth dispersal of EVMs and other polling materials, six Receive and Dispersal Centers have been established,” stated Vaheed.

He also highlighted the deployment of 15 Clusters and 31 Quick Response Teams to ensure peace on the polling day and promptly address any issues.

Moreover, CCTV cameras have been installed across all 379 polling stations in the Dhalai district, following a successful dry run.

Vaheed expressed gratitude to the dedicated polling personnel and assured them that all designated stations are expected to be manned by 4 or 4:30 PM.

The RO noted that a total of 1664 polling stations are set up across the East Parliamentary Constituency, with stringent security measures in place to ensure the conduct of free, fair, and peaceful elections.
