Guwahati: A potential rift within the Manipur Unit of the National People's Party (NPP) has been reported after the absence of all seven legislators from the party's recent State executive meeting.

This development follows the defection of key members, including former NPP MLA Langpoklakpam Jayantakumar Singh and ex-NPP candidate O Romen Singh, who joined the Indian National Congress.

The NPP State executive committee convened on September 27 at a hotel in Guwahati to discuss continued support for the BJP-led Manipur government.

Despite most NPP MLAs attending, sharp differences hindered a concrete decision.

National President Conrad K Sangma announced a National executive committee meeting in Delhi on October 5 but later postponed it indefinitely.

In response, the Manipur Unit held a meeting on October 9 to address issues arising from the postponement.

Notably, the seven NPP MLAs were absent, while National Vice President Y Joykumar, former ministers Y Irabot and N Mangi, and senior executive members participated.
