NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court, on Tuesday (April 02), granted bail to Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh in the money laundering case linked to the Delhi liquor policy case, following a concession made by the enforcement directorate (ED).

With the ED expressing no objection to the bail grant, the Court ordered the release of Sanjay Singh on bail, emphasizing that it had not expressed any opinion on the case’s merits.

Justices Sanjiv Khanna, Dipankar Datta, and PB Varale clarified that Singh could engage in political activities during his bail period.

However, they stressed that the order should not set a precedent, and Singh should refrain from making public statements regarding the case.

During the morning session, the bench had asked additional solicitor general SV Raju to ascertain if further custody of Singh was necessary.

Upon reconvening at 2 PM, Raju stated, “Without delving into the merits, I will concede in the bail matter based on the peculiar facts.”

The bench sought the ED’s stance after hearing arguments presented by senior advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi on Singh’s behalf.

Singhvi noted exculpatory statements by approver Dinesh Arora and highlighted that no money had been recovered.

“Nothing has been recovered; there is no trace,” observed the bench during the proceedings, LiveLaw reported.

Sanjay Singh was arrested by the ED on October 4 last year, following raids at his Delhi residence.

The central agency alleges that an employee of businessman Dinesh Arora delivered Rs 2 crores to Singh's house on two occasions.

Singh's arrest followed accusations by Arora, who later became an approver in both the ED and CBI cases.
