Northeast: Heavy rains to lash Assam, Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura

GUWAHATI: A westerly trough has set the stage for heavy rainfall across all eight Northeast states on February 21, 22 and 23.

This weather pattern, coupled with a new cyclonic circulation, is poised to saturate the region with significant precipitation, as forecasted by the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

The system, initially located over Northeast India earlier in the week, has now shifted closer to the sister states, amplifying the likelihood of widespread rainfall.

The IMD predicts that many parts of Northeast India will experience light to moderate rain and snow, accompanied by thunderstorms laced with lightning and gusty winds, from Wednesday (February 21) to Friday (February 23).

Arunachal Pradesh is expected to bear the brunt of heavy rainfall, with some areas forecasted to receive intense precipitation of 64.5 mm to 115.5 mm on Wednesday (February 21) and Thursday (February 22).

Higher-altitude regions in Arunachal Pradesh may also witness heavy snowfall during this period.

Similarly, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura are likely to experience heavy rainfall on Thursday (February 22).

Additionally, sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim are anticipated to encounter light to moderate thundershowers, along with lightning and gusty winds, until Thursday (February 22).
