During the January to July 2024 period, a total 456 minors and 42 women were rescued by the RPF in coordination with the Government Railway Police (GRP), Childline and other non-governmental organisations (NGOs), he added.

The rescued children and women were handed over to respective Childline, NGOs and GRP for further legal proceedings.

During the same period, eight human traffickers were also arrested by the RPF.

On August 24, a RPF team rescued four runaway minor boys at Assam’s Dibrugarh Railway station.

The rescued minor children were later handed over to the Child Help Line in Dibrugarh for safe custody.

The NF Railway has been taking all necessary steps to ensure appropriate care and protection be given to the estranged children found in trains and railway station premises.

On the other hand, the RPF has been working tirelessly to protect the railway passengers from criminals with nefarious designs.

CPRO Sharma further said that the force maintains a round the clock vigil against any suspected person involved in human trafficking.

It also remains vigilant in monitoring the movement of children in a suspicious manner and travelling alone without a guardian, among others.
