Dibrugarh: Assam Rifles apprehended two hardcore cadres of NSCN (IM) in Arunachal Pradesh Tirap district.

The cadres have been identified as — SS Lt. Khunliam Sumpa and SSL/ Cpl. Jenlong Sopong aka Jenlong Wakthom.

The cadres were involved in extortion in Khonsa Town during the recently concluded General and State Assembly elections in Tirap District.

The security forces have also recovered one 9mm pistol and four mobile phones during the operation.

The operation was launched by the Khonsa Battalion of Assam Rifles after getting a tip-off regarding their presence.

Apprehension of the two cadres goes a long way in forging a bond between Security forces and the local population apart from maintaining peace in the sensitive Tirap District of Arunachal Pradesh.

Recently, security forces arrested two linkmen of the National Socialist Council of Nagaland-Khaplang (NSCN-K) from eastern Assam Tinsukia on Wednesday.

A cash of Rs 12 lakh was recovered from their possession.

After getting a tip-off regarding the presence of over-ground workers (OGWs) of NSCN, the security forces have launched a joint operation at Tikok village in Tinsukia.

After an intense search operation, the team apprehended an active IGW of NSCN (K) and recovered Rs 12 lakh cash besides other incriminating documents from a neighbouring house.
