Tripura to set up Northeast’s largest flower garden: Minister
Agartala: In a significant move to enhance the environment and boost tourism, the Tripura state government has unveiled plans to create the largest flower garden in the Northeast region.
This ambitious project will be situated in the Tulashikhar forest range of Takchaiya in Khowai district.
According to Tripura Forest Minister Animesh Debbarma, land for the garden has already been allocated. The garden will serve as a pilot project, with the potential for similar gardens to be developed in other districts if successful.
“In recent years, many long-standing trees along the roads have been cut down for developmental projects, including the widening of the national highway. Unfortunately, there was no alternative to removing these trees. To mitigate the environmental impact and maintain oxygen levels, we will plant five lakh saplings on July 5th within five minutes,” said Minister Debbarma
This mass plantation drive will engage administrative staff from various departments, as well as participants from schools, colleges, social organizations, and the army.
The initiative will launch a month-long tree-planting campaign that will extend throughout the year.
The minister highlighted the importance of not only planting the saplings but also ensuring their proper upkeep.
Additionally, there will be roadside avenue plantations featuring fruit-bearing and flowering tree species along the newly widened national highway.
Tree seedlings will be distributed free of charge to schools, colleges, paramilitary forces, the army, and other institutions for planting in public areas.
During the month of July, seedlings will also be available for purchase at Rs 2.5 per seedling from Forest Nurseries for private land planting.
