Tripura: BJP declares candidate list for Panchayat election, nomination by July 18
Agartala: The ruling BJP in Tripura has finalized its candidate list for the upcoming three-tier Panchayat elections, following extensive consultations and meetings over the past three days.
Tripura Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury and BJP State General Secretary Amit Rakshit announced this after the Election Commission set August 8 as the election date, triggering the Model Code of Conduct.
"After thorough deliberations, BJP representatives from across the state submitted their nominations, resulting in the selection of candidates," said Minister Sushanta Chowdhury. He highlighted that the selection process included consultations with Tripura Pradesh organizations, district presidents, ministers, MLAs, and other key leaders.
"The final list of candidates underwent review in meetings chaired by BJP state president Rajib Bhattacharya and Tripura Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha," added Minister Chowdhury.
He added, "Our criteria focused on factors like social acceptance, party experience, educational qualifications, and other relevant considerations. We are committed to advancing village development and enhancing our state's welfare."
Chowdhury expressed confidence in the BJP's prospects, noting their participation in 8 Zila Parishad seats (116 seats), 35 Panchayat Samitis across 58 blocks (423 seats), and 605 Gram Panchayats (6,370 seats). "Our goal is to strengthen the three-tier Panchayat system through comprehensive development initiatives. Nominations will be filed statewide by July 18," he concluded.
