Imphal: Two bombs were planted in two different locations in the twin city of Imphal East and Imphal West districts and there have been reports of sits-in-protests which were also organized against the bomb threats on Saturday, the police said.

Following a report received from the Manipur police headquarters, a team of the bomb detection and disposal squad of the state home department first retrieved a grenade that was found in the residential area of Thangapat in the Imphal East district.

Unknown miscreants placed the bomb at the residence of Haobijam Baliadas, 56, Executive Engineer of the Rural and Engineering Department at around 5 am on Saturday.

Later, the team found a grenade dangling at the iron gate of Warokpam Geneshore, 54, Managing Director of the Imphal Finance located at Chingamakha Tomal Karak in Imphal West district at around 11 am on Saturday.

The bombs were later disposed of at a dumping side of the Imphal West district.

The motive behind the threat is suspected to be related to monetary demands, though, no underground or individual claim responsibility.

Meanwhile, sit-in protests were organized at different locations in Imphal West and East to protest the bomb threats.

The participants in the protests urged the responsible persons to settle any issue through a dialogue at the earliest and not to repeat such crime in future.

Police said two cases have been registered and the cases are under investigation.
