Sikkim lifts odd-even vehicle restrictions across state, Gangtok exempted

Guwahati: The Government of Sikkim has lifted the odd-even vehicle movement restrictions across all districts of the state, with the exception of Gangtok town, effective immediately. The rollback comes after authorities noted a significant improvement in the availability of fuel supplies.
The Home Department issued an official notification on Sunday, May 31, announcing the decision following a review of the state's fuel stock situation. The Food and Civil Supplies Department had informed the government that sufficient buffer stocks of both petrol (Motor Spirit) and diesel (High-Speed Diesel) had been built up to meet current demand.
On the basis of this assessment, the government issued a partial amendment to its earlier May 14, 2026 notification, withdrawing the odd-even restrictions on private vehicles in all areas outside of Gangtok.
However, the notification made it clear that, in accordance with the terms of Notification No. 58/Transport/2024 dated October 24, 2024, the odd-even traffic control within Gangtok town shall continue to be in effect.
The limitations placed on official cars by the May 14 notification have likewise been maintained by the administration. Furthermore, with immediate effect, Notification No. 52/Home/2026, dated May 20, 2026, has been revoked.
The most recent directive, which was issued by the Home Department on behalf of the Governor, represents a loosening of regulations that were put in place due to worries over the state's fuel supply.
According to officials, the decision was made after verifying that there are now enough fuel reserves to meet Sikkim's regular needs while guaranteeing ongoing supply and consumption pattern monitoring.
