Seven accused of kidnapping and extortion arrested in Manipur

Imphal: Manipur police arrested seven persons including two teenagers allegedly involved in kidnapping and extortion in the valley districts of the state during the past 36 hours.

Two kidnapped victims were also rescued in the operations jointly conducted by the Assam Rifles and Manipur police, officials said on Wednesday.

Acting on credible input regarding the abduction of an individual near Ponbi restaurant in Kakching about 45 km from Imphal on Monday night, Assam Rifles and Manipur Police launched operations and rescued a kidnapped individual.

The operation also resulted in the arrests of five kidnappers cum extortionists.

They are later identified as Khoirom Sanathoi Meitei, 23, Thokchom Mothomar Meitei, 18, Laisharam Ahendrajit Meitei, 31, Phandom Ango Singh, 18, Haorokcham Chitranjan Singh, 31,

In another abduction case, Police rescued a kidnapped victim and arrested two individuals identified as Md. Juma Khan, 34, and Ram Bahadur Khadkar, 44, from Imphal East District were involved in the kidnapping and extortion case.

Further legal proceedings are taking up against the arrested persons the police said.
