Schools and colleges closed for two days due to inclement weather in Manipur

Imphal: The state government on Sunday announced the closure of all schools and colleges for two days till May 7, 2024, due to the prevailing disasters of nature in the state.

Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh took to X and wrote, “All schools and colleges will remain closed on 6th May and 7th May 2024 due to the prevailing weather conditions in the state.”

“The decision has been taken as a precautionary measure against the risks posed by the current weather conditions. I urge all to stay updated and remain safe indoors. The state government is taking all necessary measures to protect lives and properties and assist those who have been affected,” the CM added.

The state chief minister has taken a prompt step in the aftermath of a ferocious hailstorm accompanied by heavy downpours leaving a trail of destruction in several parts of the state on Sunday afternoon.

Several GI tin roofs of schools across the state especially in the Imphal Valley districts were perforated when the large size of the hailstorms hit and hundreds of people whose houses were badly damaged in the fury of nature are taking shelter at different makeshifts and school buildings.

The deadly hailstorms lasted around 15 minutes at around 1:30 pm on Sunday, leaving a trail of destruction and rendering hundreds of people homeless.
