Guwahati: The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) is carrying out redevelopment works across 91 railway stations within its network.

The initiative, as a part of the Indian Railways’ broader vision to transform the passenger experience, aims to upgrade the infrastructure and amenities at certain enlisted railway stations, ensuring a modern and comfortable environment for the railway passengers.

The initiative is to enhance the overall experience of passengers by modernising the station buildings, improving access and providing state-of-the-art facilities to the passengers.

Some of the railway stations in the Northeast to be redeveloped are Kamakhya, Rangiya, Rangapara North, Dhubri, Lumding, New Tinsukia, Dibrugarh and Diphu, all in Assam.

Rangpo in Sikkim, Agartala and Udaipur in Tripura, Mendipathar in Meghalaya, Dimapur in Nagaland, and Naharlagun in Arunachal Pradesh, among others are the other railway stations of the Northeast.

Transformation works are going on in these railway stations in an expeditious manner so as to achieve highest standards of quality infrastructural works within stipulated timelines.

Some of the ongoing works include construction of foot over bridges for easy connectivity and accessibility, and development of the station's circulating areas.

Other development works include additional covered passengers parking sheds for both two and four wheelers, modern toilets for common and Divyangjan passengers, shop complexes, and improved waiting areas.

Works for spacious areas with advanced ticketing systems are in progress at stations, including Kokrajhar, Fakiragram, Dhubri, Gossaigaon Hat, Gauripur, Lanka, Hojai and Chaparmukh, among others.

All the 91 stations under the NFR will be provided with such facilities along with other amenities, including installation of CCTV cameras, better lighting and improved crowd management systems to provide a safer environment.

Even sustainability with energy-efficient lighting, rainwater harvesting systems and the use of eco-friendly materials will be its key motto. 

Facilities with better parking areas with an upgraded station façade with beautified local art and culture and reflecting the rich heritage of the region will also be done creating a welcoming atmosphere for the railway passengers.
