Guwahati: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Thursday (October 3) issued an orange alert for the Northeastern states of Assam, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura and Sikkim predicting very heavy rainfall.

The IMD in its weather bulletin said that a cyclonic circulation lies over southeast Bangladesh and neighbourhood and a trough runs from this cyclonic circulation to the north Andaman Sea across the Myanmar coast in lower tropospheric levels.

It said that a low-pressure area will likely form over the North Bay of Bengal and the neighbourhood around October 4 under its influence due to which isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected over the Northeastern region on Thursday.

On the other hand, it predicted fairly widespread to widespread light to moderate rainfall over the region during the week.

It also predicted isolated heavy rainfall over Sikkim on Thursday and between October 4 and 8 over Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura.
