Nagaland: Crackdown against outlets selling illegal lotteries in Mon district
Guwahati: In a major initiative to curb the menace of illegal gambling, the Deputy Commissioner of Mon district Ajit Kumar Verma, IAS has issued stern directives regarding the sale of unauthorized lottery tickets.
According to information, the DC has said that anyone indulging in illegal gambling will be in direct violation of the Lotteries (Regulation) Act 1998, and the DC’s office has announced that lottery games such as ShillongTeer, Nagaland Arrow and Raja Rani are being illegally distributed across various towns in the district.
The order, which came into effect on June 14, 2024, mandates severe penalties for individuals involved in the sale, distribution, or purchase of tickets for these lotteries.
Moreover, the offenders could face up to two years of rigorous imprisonment, fines, or both.
The DC has directed the concerned administrative officers and law enforcement agencies, to conduct immediate verifications across their jurisdictions.
The primary motive is to identify and shut down all outlets engaged in the illicit sale of these lottery tickets.
