Guwahati: An Indian Army officer in Nagaland saved two minor boys from drowning in Dhansiri River by risking his own life.

The incident occurred on Sunday afternoon when two boys, aged 5 or 6, were playing near the riverbank, and accidentally plunged deep into muddy water of the river.

Despite their attempts to stay afloat, the river’s current continued to pull them downstream.

Major Vishavdeep Singh Attri, stationed at the Rangapahar Military Station in Dimapur, was passing through the area when he heard a woman and the boys screaming for help.

Losing no time, Major Attri sprang into action.

The officer, being a trained swimmer, dove into the river and fought the strong currents, slush and emergent plants to reach the struggling children.

Displaying extraordinary bravery and determination, he managed to bring both the boys safely to shore.

None of the minors suffered any serious injury and were reunited with their families.

The local residents lauded Major Attri’s courageous act, which prevented a possible tragedy.
