Naga student leaders meet Manipur Governor over scrapping of FMR
Imphal: The Governor of Manipur Anusuiya Uikey has assured the leaders of the All Naga Student’s Association, Manipur (ANSAM) that she would forward their concerns to the Union Home Minister Amit Shah at the earliest.
The Governor’s assurance came after the leaders of the ANSAM submitted a memorandum to the Union Home Minister through the Manipur Governor at the Raj Bhavan, Imphal on Thursday, and an official communique said on Friday.
A six-member of ANSAM, led by President M. Luikang Luckson, met with the Manipur Governor to submit a memorandum to the Union Home Minister urging the reversal of the decision to abolish the Free Movement Regime (FMR) in Naga areas along the Indo-Myanmar border.
The ANSAM highlighted the positive impact of FMR introduced in 2018 under the Modi-led BJP regime, easing travel for tribal residents.
The delegation suggested enforcing the National Register of Citizens (NRC), and the Manipur Inner Line Permit (ILP) forming a Population Commission as effective measures against illegal immigration and insurgency.
The Governor assured them that she would be forwarding their concerns to the Union Home Minister.
