MUSU protest against MZP’s demand to terminate PhD scholar from Manipur
Imphal: The Manipur University Students’ Union (MUSU) is keeping a close eye on the development regarding the attempt to tarnish the academic career of one Meitei student.
The student named Teresa Ningthoujam is accused of being involved in the collection of funds for the procurement of bullets purportedly intended for harming Kuki people in Manipur, and some groups are demanding her termination from the Ph.D. programme at Mizoram University, a press statement said on Tuesday.
In this connection, MUSU has drawn the attention of all stakeholders especially those who are in academic pursuits including Mizo Zirlai Pawl (MZP).
The MZP a leading student body in Mizoram and the authority of Mizoram University should refrain from such irrational acts of targetting academic institutions.
Such an act is intolerable as places like academic institutions should not be touched.
Following the demand of MZP if the Mizoram University authority happens to terminate the Ph.D. programme of Teresa Ningthoujam from Mizoram University, the Manipur University Students’ Union strongly protests the same and the adjacent consequences of this could be far worse in the future, the statement added.
