Mizoram police seize heroin and alcohol worth over Rs. 67 lakh
Aizawl: The relentless efforts of Mizoram police led to a huge seizure of heroin, illicit liquor and foreign-made beer and soju worth over Rs. 67.9 lakh in three separate operations in different places in the past two days, police said in a statement.
On Thursday, a team of Champhai police station while conducting random checking at Chalbawia Junction Khankawn Police Check gate recovered and seized 156 soap cases of heroin, weighing 1.9 kilograms worth Rs.57 lakh from a car, the statement said.
The contraband was concealed inside the four doors of the said vehicle, it said.
The driver of the car identified as Lalnunpuia (42), a resident of Zokhawthar in Champhai district was arrested for possessing the contraband, it said.
In another seizure, the Lunglei District Special Branch team, acting on a tip-off, recovered and seized 116 grams of heroin worth over Rs.3.4 lakh from the illegal possession of Francis Lalramthanga(42) in Lunglei Venglai area on Wednesday.
The two accused arrested for possessing heroin were booked under relevant sections of the ND & PS Act, it said.
Special Narcotic PS team also intercepted at Zemabawk area in Aizawl on Thursday night and seized several cases of foreign liquors — 66 cases (1620 cans) of Beer worth Rs.4.86 lakh and 23 cases (460 Bottles) of Soju valued worth Rs. 2.53 lakh from the illegal possession of three persons — Tlanglawma (38), a resident of Aizawl's Chaltlang Lily Veng, Malsawmsangi (50) of Zemabawk East and Thahlunthanga (62), a resident of Chanmari West in Aizawl.
The three accused were booked under relevant sections of the Mizoram Liquor (Prohibition) Act, 2019, it said.
In another operation on Thursday morning, state police also seized 7,500 kilograms of dry areca nuts smuggled from Myanmar.
Two persons identified as Thangtinkapa and T. Chhuanliana, both from the Champhai district were arrested for transporting the smuggled areca nuts, the police statement said.
