The urban downhill mountain biking competition features 21 participants, including three from the home state.

While the first day of the  event was dedicated for practice, the main  competition is scheduled for Saturday in the street and stairway between a Presbyterian church in the Upper Republic locality and Hawla Indoor Stadium at ITI Veng in Aizawl.

The winner of the exhilarating race will earn the opportunity to compete in a prestigious Red Bull competition in South America.

Urban downhill mountain biking competitions are races where the competitor race individually down closed streets, stairways and sometimes off-road sections.

The fastest time wins the race. Urban downhill requires great skill and precision.

A series of urban downhill races are held in cities like Valparaiso in Chile, Medellin in Colombia and Mexico’s Guanajuato.

The courses are designed to test riders’ skills on concrete, corners and stairs.

Courses can be thrilling, with riders sometimes racing down rooftops, through buildings and down tight alleyways.

There is usually only a short amount of practice allowed on the course before the race and usually a qualifying run before the race.
