Imphal: A 36-year-old man was shot by armed men in both his legs at an area of Lilong Nganglong Manung under the Lilong police Station in Thoubal district of Manipur on Friday night, the police said on Saturday.

Md Abdul Salam, (36), a resident of Golapati in Imphal East district was shot and injured in both his legs at around 9 pm on Friday.

Md Salam, son of Md Ito, was reportedly picked up by unknown armed men from his residence and shot one bullet each on his legs.

He has a record of illegal drug business in the state.

He is stated to be picked by some cadres of an armed outfit and later released with a warning not to step into the shady drug business.

The injured person was rushed to the Noor Hospital in Lilong about 14 km from Imphal and given treatments.

The motive behind the attack would be imparting punishment for trading in the illegal drugs business, the report said.

Meanwhile, police said a suo-motto case was registered in this connection.

No outfit or individual claimed responsibility for the incident so far.
