Manipur: Weapons and explosives hidden in cemetery recovered in Churachandpur
Imphal: Arms, ammunition, and explosives hidden at an area of a cemetery in Churachandpur district were discovered in an operation, the Manipur police Control Room morning report said on Wednesday.
Based on specific intelligence of the presence of arms and ammunition near a graveyard of Kawnpui Cemetery in Churachandpur district, troops of the Assam Rifles and Manipur Police conducted a search operation on Tuesday.
The operation ended with the recovery of one SBBL 12-bore gun (country-made), some ammunition, and explosive materials.
However, the miscreants managed to flee from the scene and are taking refuge at Haotak Gelbung village an adjoining location of the district boundary between Churachandpur and Bishnupur.
Following the reports, the joint team again launched the operation in the Gelbung area.
During the search operations, the security forces found one Lathod Gun, two pompy country-made guns, one carbine with a magazine, Kenwood handheld set, two HE-36 hand grenades, fifteen live rounds, one B.P set and two combat dress shirts.
There were no arrests made during the operation.
The police said that the recovered items were handed over to the concerned police stations for legal proceedings.
