Imphal: A joint central and state forces launched counter-insurgency operations in Manipur’s Kangpokpi district for the second successive day.

The operations successfully retrieved a large number of warlike weapons.

In the search operations and area domination, the Indian Army in conjunction with the Manipur Police launched a joint operation and recovered a cache of warlike weapons including arms, ammunition, and explosives in Kangpokpi district, officials said on Saturday, the police said on Sunday.

Acting on specific intelligence of the presence of arms and ammunition in the fringe areas of Wakan ridges under Saikul Police Station, Kangpokpi District, the joint team launched the operation.

It successfully retrieved one 7.62 mm AK 56 rifle with a magazine, one 9 mm Carbine with a magazine, two 9 mm Pistol (Country) with the magazine, one 4 mm Pistol (made in India), two IEDs, one Tear Smoke shell (chilli), two 12 bore illumination round, one two-inch Mortar illumination bomb with bomb case, one two-inch Mortar Smoke Bomb Mk-2 with Bomb case, one CMG Bayonet, and 14 Tube Launching 1A.

No arrest has been made but the recovered items have been handed over to the concerned police station for legal action.

On Friday, the joint team also launched the operations at Khengjam village of Kangpokpi district predominantly inhabited by the Kuki-Zo community.

The cordon and search operations that lasted around 3 hours successfully recovered one 7.62 mm SLR with two Magazines, one 12-inch SBBL Gun, 10 Live rounds of ammunition, and one Baofeng Radio Set.

However, no arrest has been made in the operation, the reports added.
