Manipur: Two PLA and two KCP cadres arrested for extortion bid in Imphal West
Imphal: Manipur police arrested four active cadres of two underground groups involved in extortion activities from educational institutions and private businesses.
Two numbers of two-wheelers, Rs 44,210 in cash, seven mobile handsets and some demand letters have been recovered from them.
The arrests and seizures were made at different hideouts of the Imphal west district on Monday, the police said on Tuesday.
Two active cadres of the banned Revolution People’s Front, the police wing of the proscribed People’s Liberation Army (RPF/PLA) later identified as Wahengbam Tombi Singh (47) @ Ibetombi @ Chaothoi and Thoudam Hemchandra Singh (42) @ Ingo were arrested in an area of the Imphal West district.
They were arrested along with four mobile phones, a wallet with Rs. 13,520 in cash and one four-wheeler vehicle.
In another raid, the police also arrested two active cadres of a proscribed outfit Kangleipak Communist Party — People’s War Group (KCP-PWG)from Imphal West District.
The arrested cadres have been identified as Huiningshungbam Kenjen Singh (36) and Irom Mikoi Singh (47).
Three mobile handsets, a wallet, one Aadhar card, Rs. 30, 690 in cash and one two-wheeler vehicle were recovered from them.
They were involved in extortion activities from various educational institutes around the Imphal area.
The arrested persons along with the confiscated articles were handed over to the concerned police stations for further legal procedures, the police added.
