Manipur: Three KCP-T cadres involved in extortion held in Thoubal
Imphal: Three active cadres of the proscribed Kangleipak Communist Party — Taibanganba (KCP-T) who were involved in ruthless extortion activities were arrested in a search and cordon operation conducted in the southern Thoubal district of Manipur on Tuesday.
Two pistols with two magazines, 19 live rounds, Rs. 30,000/- three mobile mobiles, four demand letters, and an Alto car have been recovered in the operation, the police said on Wednesday.
After getting intelligence input from its sources some armed youths are trying to extort money after serving demand letters, the commandos of the Thoubal district police and a team of the Khongjom police station launched an anti-insurgency campaign at a suspected location at Khongjom village in Thoubal district of Manipur in the early hours of Tuesday.
Three cadres of the banned KCP-T were trapped while two others managed to escape from the scene during the operation that lasted around two hours, the police said.
The miscreants were identified as Konjengbam Akash @Pari Meitei (33), Nongthombam Amujao Singh (25), and Amom Somendro @Kaleipung Meitei (28)
The arrested cadres along with the confiscated items were handed over to the Khongjom police station for necessary legal proceedings, the police added.
