Imphal: Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh along with several civic bodies across the state has taken up multiple initiatives to make Imphal city and towns cleaner and adhere to the beliefs of ensuring a healthy environment for all.

As a part of the initiative, the Chief Minister inspected the cleanness drives at the historic Kangla Fort of Imphal city,  Ima markets (Thangal and Paona Keithels), and Naga Nullah on Sunday.

Personnel of the Manipur Fire Service Department were pressed into services in the clean-up campaigns in the heart of the Imphal city on Sunday.

Apart from the massive waste management campaign which is scheduled to be launched on June 5 all across India, individual civic bodies are also conducting their cleanup campaigns to ensure that cities begin to become garbage-free.

After joining the cleanness campaign, the Chief Minister on his Twitter said, “As we approach World Environment Day, I am pleased to participate in a community social service event dedicated to environmental preservation.”

World Environment Day is celebrated annually on 5 June and encourages awareness and action for protecting the environment.

“I appreciate the officials of the Manipur Government for initiating the drive along with the local clubs and youths. Our environment is our most precious resource, and we must nurture and preserve it. I urge you to contribute in any way you can – be it through planting more trees, reducing plastic usage, or adopting eco-friendly practices in your daily life,” the CM concluded.

The campaign is supported by many non-governmental organizations, businesses, and government entities, and represents the primary United Nations outreach day supporting the environment.

This year’s World Environment Day 2024 is under the theme of Land restoration, desertification, and drought resilience.

The 2024 edition of World Environment Day will focus on land restoration, desertification, and drought resilience, under the slogan “Our Land. Our Future.”
