Manipur: Social reformer Babasaheb to urge PM Modi for peace in state

Guwahati: Social activist and reformist from Maharashtra’s Pune Babasaheb Pandurang Adhav will write to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh and other leaders of the country urging for restoration of peace in the violence-hit state.

The 94-year-old social reformer, fondly known as Baba, said he will not remain a silent spectator when Manipur has been witnessing unceasing violence for over past 17 months.  

Baba told a group of senior journalists from Manipur, who visited Pune for a discussion on the violence in Manipur, that he will not remain a silent spectator given the situation besetting the state with no sign of restoration of peace.

“We want peace to be restored in Manipur. I will write to PM Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, other Central leaders and Manipur Chief Minister to extend their utmost efforts in bringing back peace in the state at the earliest,” Baba said.

The journalists from Manipur narrated the conflict and the government’s failure to resolve it. Baba expressed disappointment over the government’s failure in bringing a solution to the crisis.

Renowned social activist Mohan Wadekar, who also participated in the discussion, said the Prime Minister is not paying attention to the crisis in Manipur.

“We have conducted several rallies for restoration of peace in Manipur. The urgent need of the hour is to put a halt to the ongoing violence and bring back peace and normalcy in Manipur. We will urge PM Modi for restoration of peace in the state at the earliest,” Wadekar said.
