Manipur: Smuggler arrested with Brown Sugar worth Rs 3.5 crore in Imphal
Imphal: The anti-smuggling unit of the Customs Division of Imphal arrested an alleged smuggler and claimed to have recovered Brown Sugar worth around Rs 3.5 crore in the international black market on Tuesday, officials said on Wednesday.
Acting on a piece of specific information, the sleuths of the anti-smuggling unit of Imphal Customs division intercepted a Dimapur-bound passenger Tata Winger at Koirengai Bazar in Imphal East at around 7 am on Tuesday.
During the search operation, one alleged smuggler was arrested along with 700 grams of brown sugar.
The drug concealed in 60 soap cases was carried in a travel backpack.
This was stated by Thuilu Lanamai, Superintendent (A/S) Customs Division, Imphal, Manipur.
The arrested person has been identified as Md. Sabir Ali, 24, son of Md. Shahejaman of Kwakta Ward Number 8, Moirang, Bishnupur district of Manipur.
The confiscated drugs along with the accused have been arrested under relevant sections of the NDPS Act, 1985.
Further investigation to nab other offenders of the case is going on, the officials added.
