Manipur: Smuggler arrested with Brown Sugar worth 10 crore in Churachandpur
Imphal: In the unflinching war against narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances, a 22-year-old tribal drug smuggler was arrested along with Brown Sugar worth around Rs 10 crore in the international black market along the Manipur-Myanmar border on Friday, officials said on Saturday.
Acting on a tip, a joint team of the central and state forces conducted a frisking operation and apprehended one suspected smuggler carrying Brown Sugar from Sangaikot junction of Churachandpur District, Manipur bordering Myanmar on the south on Friday morning.
One alleged drug smuggler namely Ginlunlen @ William (22) a resident of Sangaikot junction, Churachandpur District was apprehended along with 2.3 Kg (including weight of soap cases) of Brown Sugar packed in 60 soap cases during a routine Area Domination Patrol cum frisking operation in the southern parts of the state.
As per the preliminary interrogation report that was collected from the arrested person, the joint team came to know that the drug items were smuggled into the state from their counterparts across the Myanmar border.
The arrested individual and the confiscated items have been handed over to the Churachandpur Police Station for further investigations and legal actions, the officials added.
