Manipur: Sit-in protest held against grenade blast in Imphal
Imphal: A sit-in protest was staged on Thursday at the Palace Gate Imphal condemning the bomb blast at the courtyard of a former technical chairman of the Wushu Association of India (WAI) at Brahmapur Nahabam in Imphal East district.
The protestors mostly young players coming from different districts across the state used placards inscribed with the slogans “Attacking innocents is an ultimate act of cowardice,” “We condemn bomb attack in residential areas”, “Those attackers against civilians are enemy of the people”, and “Arrest all those involved in the bomb attack”.
Speaking on the sidelines of the protest, a woman protestor recalled that two grenades were hurled by two masked men who came on a bike, of which one exploded around 8 pm Tuesday when children were in the courtyard.
One of the bombs blasted at the residential compound of Mayanglambam Birmani, retired technical chief of WAI catching a car on fire.
The perpetrators managed to flee from the scene under the cover of the darkness.
She demanded to clarify why the attack was carried out and urged all concerned not to repeat such ghastly acts in the future.
Meanwhile, the motive behind the attack has yet to be established, but police said they are investigating the matter.
A case is also registered in this regard, the police added.
